The basic difference between an ordinary man and a warrior is that a warrior takes everything as a challenge while an ordinary man takes everything either as a blessing or a curse.
- Don Juan, Tales of Power
We were driving by Quirino Avenue to bring my kids to Manila Zoo when we were greeted by a huge crowd wearing yellow, with placards saying “We Love You Tita Cory”
Thammie and I were amazed at the legacy Cory Aquino left us. She might not be the most skilled president but what she lack in talent she sure made up with her character and moral authority.
Cory was given a task that was way beyond her but she did show the world what leadership is all about. Cory was a leader worth following. The testament of it is how the crowds from Metro Manila brave the weather to see their beloved President for one last time.
Students, Housewives, businessmen, soldiers, politicians, people from all walks of life paid homage to her. She was not an ordinary woman who took the challenge to lead this country and fight for our democracy.
Tita Cory you are a leader worth emulating. I hope that your death would spark a revolution in our hearts. Ninoy was known for his quote “The Filinos are worth dying for.” You have shown us that the Filipinos are worth LIVING for!

Great blog Ptr. Dennis!
I disagree. I remembered her presidency and she never acted as a leader, but as a pawn to her powerful cronies and to the Catholic Church. She was meek, timid, unassertive and weak, which is why there were seven coup attempts during her term. She may be a symbol of democracy but she was no leader.
All this Cory lovefest we are seeing is reminiscent of Micheal Jackson’s death a few weeks ago. They were both symbols of human aspirations, but the reality of their lives do not reflect the people’s unskeptical adulation.
Yes, she was a leader worth following. The task that God gave her during that time was not for everyone but only to her…it all started with her alone. She did not take advantage of her position as a President. She made herself available for the freedom needed of our country. Yes, she was just a wife and a mother, but God gave her the strength to become a leader during her time. She let herself used by people just to have democracy. That alone was big thing to remember about her.
