something to think about

John Piper made a very strong interesting comment on using video clips in preaching.

“I think the use of video and drama largely is a token of unbelief in the power of preaching. And I think that, to the degree that pastors begin to supplement their preaching with this entertaining spice to help people stay with them and be moved and get helped, it’s going to backfire. It’s going to backfire.”

Do I agree? Well do you agree? What do you think?

One Response to something to think about

  1. Myk says:

Paul says in 1 Corinthians 9:22-23: “To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.”

I think that applies to preachers nowadays who aim to attract people to the Gospel, especially the unbelievers. There are those, however, that make it a point to insert a video clip (sometimes too lengthy) in their preachings, which sometimes not really 100% relates to the message anymore but is done just for the sake of having something to catch the attention of the congregation maybe at the end of an already lengthy message.

But, in my opinion, if it was merely going to be believers spoken to, just a preacher on the pulpit relying solely on the Spirit of God is enough.
