Holy Week Blog 1: The Cross

cross

This holy week we are given a chance to remember what happened at the cross 2000 years ago. God sent His only Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sin since we cannot pay its penalty somebody has to pay it for us.

The past 2 weeks of sermon preparation on the cross has given me a deeper appreciation of what Christ did. I am humbled at the foot of the cross. In light of the cross I know where I stand, where God has saved me from and how undeserving I am of His love but He still loves me up until today and forever.

At the cross I understood that I deserve hell because of my sin. At the cross I saw the debt that I could not pay. But it is also at the cross that I experienced the unconditional love of the Father. His love, grace and forgiveness that still overwhelms me. That I have nothing to boast except that Christ loved me and died for me.

That all the success that the world gives fails far in comparison to the richness, fullness and power of the cross. At the cross He said – I love you.

While I was living in sin – Christ died for me.
When I fail Him – He died for me
When I hated Jesus – He chose to die for me.

There is nothing I can boast except that Christ deserves all the glory and praise. I can only boast in the Lord.

1Pet. 2:24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

Is. 53:6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
