Ministry Turf

Posted by Dennis in church growth, discipleship, staff meetings, team on 02 26th, 2010 | 2 Comments
The Youth Ministry has its own turf. The Kids ministry has their own turf. The Discipleship Ministry has its own turf and so on and so forth for every ministry in church. This usually happens to churches who have forgotten the BIG PICTURE of why they exists. Instead of working towards a common goal, different ministries in the same church creates their own turf. So how do we rally towards a common goal and remove the turfs and silos we have created. Create a rally cry. My family have been doing the rally cry since last year and it work wonders for us. We...

don’t get in the numbers game

Posted by Dennis in discipleship on 02 18th, 2010 | 2 Comments
One of the temptations every church pastor/planter face is to dwell on the numbers. Don’t get me wrong, I look at the number of people attending church every week. I assess the patterns and the seasons of the church. I know that every number represents a soul and that is the same reason I don’t get into the numbers game. If NUMBERS represent a person then it should go beyond numbers. Every person has a story. Every person has a season. Same with the church that you pastor. Every church has a story and every church has a season. Our pastoral team...

Anonymous

Posted by Dennis in discipleship on 02 8th, 2010 | No Comments
Church people who loves anonymity dreads accountabilty. If people don’t know me – then it does not matter how I live my life – nobody knows and nobody cares. Not that nobody in church wants to know and care it is just Mr/Ms Anonymous prefers it that way. Remaining anonymous won’t challenge you to be the man or woman that God has destined you to be – or it might but who would know? Sidenote: Pastor Jayson started a NEW GROUPS FOR NEW PEOPLE and 15 people showed up. If you are interested to join just be at Music Museum lobby 130pm...

I finally discovered the secret to lasting in ministry

Posted by Dennis in devotion, discipleship on 02 3rd, 2010 | 1 Comment
What is the secret to LASTING LONG in ministry? What is the secret to not getting BURNED OUT? What is the secret to mighty men and women of God who endured the test of time? Studies show that a lot of pastors quit after two years of ministry. Every year thousands of pastors quit every month and thousands of churches closes. Most of the time they have neglected to live out the principle that I am about to share. THE SECRET TO MINISTRY FRUITFULNESS AND LONGEVITY IS: PLAY. Yes play. I did not misspell the word. ( did I misspell mispel?) Not pray – though...

blur views on evangelism and discipleship

Posted by Dennis in discipleship on 01 28th, 2010 | 5 Comments
Is there a difference between evangelism and discipleship? Lots of churches have an evangelism committee/ministry and a discipleship ministry. Churches have evangelsim programs and discipleship programs. Churches would normally have two teams – one team for evangelism and the other team for discipleship. BUT if you clearly look at the biblical pattern you would see that evangelism is part of discipleship. It is not a seperate entity. Once you evangelize a person or engage people you are already starting the discipleship process. We cannot stop with...

Lemonade and Evangelism

Posted by Dennis in church growth, discipleship on 01 11th, 2010 | No Comments
How do you best engage people with the gospel? How do you make people listen to the gospel? Some tried tract distribution ( and most tracts find their way to the trash). No offense to the people doing it… just saying…. Some tried preaching on the streets, some tried crying out doomsday prophecies and fear people to go to heaven. Some really make their Sunday worship excellent and friendly to seekers But how do you effectively engage people with the gospel. Let me share to you a blog of Seth Godin about the 2 lemonade stands. The first stand is...

If you want to be (fill in the blank)

Posted by Dennis in discipleship, excellence on 11 19th, 2009 | 5 Comments
If you want to be - the best in your profession - a multi-millionaire - a fit person - a successful businessman - debt free - a growing Christian then - hang out with people who you want to be someday - observe their life - ask what books they are reading - ask if you can be an apprentice - go to where they are going - think like them

EMPOWERED DISCIPLES PART 2

Posted by Dennis in Uncategorized, discipleship on 10 28th, 2009 | 3 Comments
Empowered Disciples is the New Big. The way to get big is not thorugh numeric goals or counting the weekly attendance but asking “Have I empowered the church to be disciples in their culture and in their world?” The mistake a lot of churches make is that they try to box discipleship to look like a certain way. Discipleship is only when you become a small group leader! Discipleship is when you finish a certain course in Bible School! Discipleship happens once a week when you meet with your small group! But empowered disciples knows that discipleship...

EMPOWERED DISCIPLE IS THE NEW BIG

Posted by Dennis in discipleship on 10 27th, 2009 | 1 Comment
Small is the New Big they would always say. It applies to churches as well. The larger the church is, the smaller it has to get. But I would like to propose a NEW BIG. EMPOWERED DISCIPLES. It is so easy to get a crowd. With the right tools, an excellent worship service, the proper research – you can attract crowds but Jesus was not after crowds. He was more concerned with their lives than the numbers. Pastors usually get into the number trap. The bigger I get – the more successful I am. So we make numeric goals like by the end of 2010 we would...

PRUNING

Posted by Dennis in devotion, discipleship on 08 26th, 2009 | No Comments
Last July God gave our church a WORD about PRUNING. Ouch! Pruning is such a painful word – am i right? It means God is about to expose character issues, sins attitudes, motives. It is a messy but it is a great thing. Everybody needs pruning. I need pruning as much as the guy sitting next to you. Pruning makes us better Christians. It is God taking the excesses and baggages in our lives so that we may become blessed and Christ-like. Now how we react to the PRUNING process is another story. Some react really well and some don’t. Those who react...
