4 things to ask before you say “I DO”

Posted by Dennis in culture on 09 24th, 2009 | 6 responses

711flb24jo283emj1. Does he love Jesus more than me?

The key to a lasting relationship is knowing that you and your partner loves Jesus more than you love each other. Relationships would always go through rough waters and your love would be tested. The words “I forgive you” would have more weight than “I love you” at this moments. If your partner loves him/her self more – forgiveness might not be an option.

2. Would you love him/her less if he/she fails you?

What if he fails you – are you ready to stick with your man? What if he makes a wrong investment and loses all your savings – would you follow through with your commitment to him. What if he does not meet your expectations of what a husband should be – would you still love and respect him?

3. Women: Are you willing to submit to his leadership?

¶ Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.  Ephesians 5:22
¶ Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.  Colossians 3:18

Girl – are you ready to submit to his decisions no matter how crazy it is? are you ready to let this man father your kids, lead you spiritually, emotionally, financially? are you ready to support this man no matter what?

Men: are you willing to let this woman help you?

After 5 years of marriage here is what I realize – I need help!!!!!

¶ The LORD God said,  “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”  Genesis 2:18

God knows. He created us men to cry for help. Are you willing to humble yourself and listen to the woman God has given you. are you willing to ask for her advice? are you willing to listen to unsolicited advices from this woman?

4. Are you ready to leave your parents and start your own family?

We always say – we don’t lose a son/daughter – they are added to our family! The people who say this are people who are afraid to leave the comforts of their parent’s home to start their own family.

Girl – if your man can’t leave his mama and cleave to you – then he is not worthy of your commitment.

Dude – if your girl can’t leave home to start a family with you – then she is not marriable. Setups like these mean you also marry her dad, mom, lola, lolo, kuya and ate, and inday.

too late for me now… haha! joke! although i wasn’t able to have that kind of preparation before i and sally said “i do”, good thing we were able to discover those 4 things and made a decision we will live to that principle… even after the big “i do”. and it liberated us from the serious conflicts of marriage. thank you for your word Jesus! great blog pastor d.
